Tucson, AZ — July 15, 2020 — The reality of inequities in educator and student readiness to implement distance learning has become clear during the COVID-19 outbreak. To support educators in their ongoing professional learning in mathematics and assist them in preparing for continued remote learning during the 2020–21 school year, IM Certified® IM Professional Learning has been converted to virtual delivery. This includes preparing educators for the implementation of all IM Certified curricula including IM K–5 Math beta, IM 6–8 Math and IM 9–12 Math.

New to the IM Professional Learning offerings this summer are courses to help educators support students with unfinished learning in mathematics, champion English language learners during remote learning, and translate problem-based instruction into digital and asynchronous learning formats.

IM Certified Professional Learning helps teachers develop the skills and confidence to implement problem-based instruction, ensure curricular coherence within and across grade levels, facilitate meaningful math discussions, and implement instructional routines that engage students and improve their learning — whether in the classroom or during remote learning. Delivered by IM Certified Facilitators, the professional learning offerings are deeply integrated with the IM curriculum, guiding teachers and curriculum leaders through instructional and practice shifts to provide long-term, sustainable support for improving instruction and boosting student achievement.

“We understand the uncertainty that teachers, coaches, and school leaders are facing as they prepare for the upcoming school year,” said IM President Kristin Umland. “Educators are doing everything they can to be ready to support their students’ learning in the fall, including participating in professional learning to help them with remote teaching. Our facilitators led over 150 professional learning sessions in May and June alone, and we expect that number to more than double by the end of August.”
