almost 6 yearsI like this task. You can also easily incorporate MP 3 which will help students gain a deeper understanding of modeling functions. You can also ask students to write their own scenario to present to the class. One other thought....MP 6 could also be incorporated here. You can have discussion about being precise when letting variables represent some quantity. During that discussion, students may also come to realize that y was not defined in the scenarios.
